About Us

Who we are

The Public Service Pensions Policy Unit is primarily responsible for the development of public service pension policies, and for providing guidance about the interpretation and implementation of such policies to local HRs and pension administrators. The unit is part of the Work and Pensions division of the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform.

What we do

The Public Service Pensions Policy Unit focuses on public service pension reform and policy implementation in areas such as pension increase policy, professional added years, pension abatement, transfer and purchase of service. The unit is also responsible for processing pension appeals in line with fair procedures, for which the Minister for the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform is arbiter.

Our unit works closely with colleagues in the Actuarial Services and Superannuation and Retired Allowances Vote, and the Single Public Service Pension Scheme units, both of which sit under the Work and Pensions Division in the Department of Public Expenditure, NDP Delivery and Reform.

Please note that this website contains general policy information relating to pre-existing public service pension schemes. This website also includes pension and purchase of service modellers which allow members of the pre-existing civil service pension schemes to estimate their pension benefits or the cost of purchasing service. This website does not cover the Single Public Service Pension Scheme. For information on the Single Public Service Pension Scheme, please visit the Single Pension scheme website.
